Enhanced Internet Services on the rise according to Gartner Hype Cycle

Expereo team

The COVID-19 pandemic shifted I&O’s priorities, creating the need to dynamically, rapidly and temporarily scale to support a large remote workforce. This accelerated interest in networking technologies are heavily driven by digitization and cloud computing. Among them, Enhanced Internet Services are one of the most hyped technologies in networking according to this year’s Gartner Hype Cycle for Enterprise Networking, where Expereo is mentioned as a Sample Vendor.

What are Enhanced Internet Services?

Enhanced Internet Services are a collection of over-the-top (OTT) Internet-based service offerings to improve the reliability and performance of Internet-based traffic. Some of the features include optimized, dynamic path determination, performance optimization and secure, automated tunnel creation. They may be sourced by enterprise customers or built into SaaS services, and are continuously more relevant due to growing cloud adoption.

As the Internet becomes an increasingly integral component of a corporate WAN strategy, the need for a more assured, consistent Internet experience also increases. Architecturally, it makes sense to deliver network functions OTT, as it aligns with emerging traffic patterns.

What do Enhanced Internet Services do?

With the rapid adoption of software-defined WAN (SD-WAN) allowing direct Internet access for cloud-delivered corporate applications, enterprises are starting to explore ways of achieving better application performance and reliability across Internet connections. Enhanced Internet Services address the Internet performance and reliability gap between SD-WAN and cloud-delivered applications especially for geographically distributed organizations.

Enhanced Internet Services focus on enhanced routing, optimization, and control. Enterprises with global or extended regional footprints that are increasing usage of public cloud-based applications should consider OTT enhanced internet services, as they improve reliability and performance for cloud resident applications.

It is particularly relevant for organizations using multiple cloud services with a distributed user footprint (global or pan region). These services may also be of value to midsize enterprises moving to an all-internet-based WAN transport.
